When you’re behind closed doors, everything changes.
But your right to be treated well remains the same.
In The Netherlands, people behind closed doors are often treated well. But sometimes things can be improved.
We monitor this. We are the NPM.
We visit people in for instance a prison, police cell, closed healthcare ward or youth facility centre.
We want to hear your story, because only you know how things really are.
You might be asked to talk to us. It’s completely up to you whether you want to.
We’ll ask questions, like how you’re being treated.
And whether you’re not being kept alone for too long.
If we hear from multiple people that something can be improved…
we advise management or the minister to take action.
We use your story to help make sure everyone’s treated better.
Everybody has rights, also when you’re behind closed doors.
